Editorial Standards
Editorial standards, public accountability, media contact, and press verification for BBSC's publishing work.
Standards
How BBSC Publications approaches accuracy and independence.
BBSC Publications aims to publish work that is clear, sourced, labeled, corrected when needed, and honest about the difference between reporting, analysis, opinion, advocacy, satire, and commercial activity.
Core Standards
- Accuracy and verification: important factual claims should be checked against reliable sources, primary documents, direct statements, or original reporting whenever possible.
- Attribution: sourced claims, outside reporting, quotes, documents, and data should be credited clearly.
- Right of response: when practical, people or organizations facing meaningful criticism should be given a fair opportunity to respond.
- Conflicts: relevant business, personal, partnership, merchandise, membership, or advocacy interests should be disclosed when they affect a story.
- Images and video: illustrations, fan art, reenactments, and generated visuals should be labeled when they could be confused for documentary photographs.
- AI-assisted work: AI tools may assist with research organization, drafting support, image concepts, formatting, and editing, but BBSC remains responsible for what is published.
- Sponsored or partner content: sponsored material and partner-driven content should be clearly labeled and should not be presented as independent reporting.
Independence Note
Advertising, sponsorship, partnerships, memberships, merchandise sales, gifts, free products, travel, or special access do not buy favorable coverage or editorial approval rights.
